Ramen Borah, born in 1974 in Assam’s Nagaon district, is a veteran filmmaker, editor, and director with over 20 years of experience in the Assamese film industry. He completed his M.Com in Finance from Guwahati University in 1998-99 before stepping into the world of cinema.
He began his career in 1999 as an assistant director, working under acclaimed filmmakers, including several National Award winners. Alongside directing, Ramen honed his skills in editing, soon becoming known for his sharp eye and technical finesse.
Over the years, he has edited more than a hundred fiction and non-fiction films, as well as advertisements. Many of these were commissioned by respected bodies like Doordarshan, the Film Division, and various government and non-government organizations.
One of his most recognized editing works is the National Award-winning short film Yugadrasta, directed by Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta. He also edited Borxharannya: The Rain Forest, selected for the Delhi and Lonavla International Film Festivals in 2015. His work on Kothanadi and Maaj Rati Keteky further cemented his reputation in the industry.
In 2012, he won the Best Editing Award at the Prag Cine Awards for Duwar. He was also nominated for Best Editor for Oyya, a DD National Award-winning telefilm produced by Doordarshan Kendra Itanagar.
As a director and producer, Ramen has created impactful documentaries. Green Gold received a Jury Special Mention under the Assam Tourism Development Corporation. Another documentary, Sikar aru Sitkar, earned a Special Mention at the 64th National Film Awards and won the Assam State Award in 2017. It was also showcased at several Indian film festivals.
Ramen Borah continues his creative journey today, balancing roles as both director and editor. His latest work is Montur Montoh, a full-length Assamese feature film, which reflects his ongoing dedication to regional cinema.

Ramen Borah received a Special Mention in the National Film Awards for the year 2016-17 for his outstanding contribution to the film Sikar & Sitkar. The honor was presented by the President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee, in recognition of his exceptional storytelling and creative excellence. This prestigious accolade highlights his significant impact on Assamese cinema.
Ramen Borah was honored with the Best Director award at the Chalchitra National Film Awards 2016 for his film Sikar & Sitkar. The award was presented by then Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, recognizing his brilliant direction and creative vision. This achievement highlights his talent and contribution to Assamese cinema.
Ramen Borah won the Best Editor award at the Prag Cine Awards for the year 2013-14 for his work on the movie Duar. His exceptional editing skills played a key role in enhancing the film’s impact, earning him well-deserved recognition in the industry.
Challenge is a compelling film that won the Best Film award at the 2023 Kolkata International Film Festival. The story delves into themes of perseverance, personal conflict, and triumph, portraying the struggles of its characters as they face significant challenges. Ramen Borah’s editing plays a crucial role in shaping the film’s pacing and emotional intensity, enhancing its narrative impact.
In 2017, Ramen Borah was awarded Best Director in the Heritage Short Film Competition at the Guwahati Film Festival for his film Final Amen. The film, which highlights the plight of the endangered one-horned rhino, was praised for its powerful message and impactful direction
Challenge is a powerful film that earned the Special Mention award at the 5th Chitra Bharti Film Festival. It explores themes of resilience, inner conflict, and victory, capturing the hardships its characters endure while overcoming major obstacles. Ramen Borah’s editing significantly contributes to the film’s rhythm and emotional depth, amplifying its storytelling impact.
Ramen Borah received a Special Mention at the Aranyani Docufest in 2024 for his documentary Guest of Kamakhya. The film was recognized for its unique perspective and compelling storytelling, earning him appreciation from both audiences and critics alike.
